Tom Field

Mix the wisdom of Gandalf with John Wayne’s grit and you get Tom Field. His infinite hope, motivational storytelling, and commitment to cowboy ethics lay the foundation for Engler’s distinctive culture as an entrepreneurship program that pursues purpose over profit.
As Director of the Engler Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Program, Tom stewards Paul Engler’s gift, advocates for young business owners, and inspires students to saddle up and ride fearlessly into the frontier of entrepreneurship. He works closely with the student executive team and alumni advisory board to build the program’s capacity to serve college entrepreneurs and rural communities in Nebraska for years to come.
Tom also teaches Introduction to Entrepreneurship and Designing Your Entrepreneurial Life. As an academic advisor, he is intentional about connecting with every student that comes through the Engler program. One thing is for certain – you never leave a conversation with Tom the same way you came. Just as Gandalf advised each member of the Fellowship, Tom sincerely believes in each student’s ability to build their own legacy.
Before coming to Engler, Tom was a professor at Colorado State University and led the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association as Executive Director of Producer Education. A frequent speaker at agricultural events in the U.S. and across the world, he consults with numerous agricultural enterprises and serves on several boards related to education, agriculture, and athletics. He is the co-owner of Field Land and Cattle Company, LLC in Colorado. His most treasured roles in life are as a husband to his wife Laura and father to his 5 children.
Like all characters in epic tales or stories of the wild west, those who are gifted with the entrepreneurial spirit eventually find themselves at a crossroad. All entrepreneurs must decide whether to accept the status quo or find the courage to set out on their own. If you find yourself at such a crossroad, look no further than Tom Field to help forge your path.
